Lost in a Labyrinth A short story by Jonathan D. Whitlock

Lost in a Labyrinth

A short story by: Jonathan D. Whitlock

I was barely ready for the event when it was announced “Here we are! Everybody out!” Soon, we were in the middle of the cultural craziness that we call a corn maze. “Can’t you just smell the cultural heritage here?” mom asked. I took a deep breath, and I don’t think that was cultural heritage that I smelled.

It was after wandering around for several hours, that my brother Mike whined, “Momm, I’m hungry!” Dad soon asked, “Was that a Taco Bell that we just passed back there?” “Floyd, this is a corn maze not a highway. Stop being a smart aleck!”

After the skies began to get dark it was determined that we were lost. “See that?” I said, “Follow the light!” I pointed to a light that appeared up ahead. I guess it was a spotlight or something. We kept wandering. After several search groups were sent to look for us, we were spotted by a surveillance team. The papers were alerted, and soon we found we were heading back home. To Detroit.
